Easy Browns, the frenetic Naarm/Melbourne 4-piece with a knack for formidable live shows are announcing the early-September release of their third LP “Down On The Farm”, a concept record based on climate breakdown and using animals as tools, starring the quirky new single “Rounding Up A Bunch Of Cats”
Easy Browns' manic music is an amalgamation of 60’s pop and modern psych-rock, guided by whimsical lyrics and taking note from artists such as Frank Zappa, The Kinks and Wipers. Easy Browns have brought utter boogie to the feet of punters at Falls Festival, Gizzfest, and Kennedys Creek Music Festival.
“Rounding Up A Bunch Of Cats” is the third single from “Down On The Farm”. Combining filth and fancy, the track opens with twisting flute melodies and potent lyricism that moves softly into a lush chorus of homely guitars and pleasant harmonies. The lyrics touch on the mad dash of modern society and how pace reflects upon even our simplest of actions.
“Whatever happened to sacred efficiency? The machine it seems must decrease it’s momentum, and momentous will be the grand idling that takes the place of an all encompassing, ever-expanding sense of pace"
lyrics
Whatever happened to sacred efficiency?
The machine it seems must decrease it’s momentum
And momentous will be the grand idling
That takes the place of an all encompassing, ever expanding sense of pace
So call off the rat rats
I must seek refuge in the humble art
Of herding the most dysfunctional of felidae
The domestic puss
In a rodeo for ages
It’s like rounding up a bunch of kitty cats
And those felines
ain’t got me feeling
So damn fine
I just want to be on time
But not a priority is that
For a kitty cat such as that
Did you hear the pitter-patter of that kitty-catter?
Slowly slowly it treads your thin tin roof as you wonder
Why-oh-why it let those rat inhabitants get so out of control in the first place
And leaving such a potential for pestilence in its wake
So it goes the space between you and your companions grows
Perhaps it is time to leave the confines of the corral
And embrace a new pace
Somewhere far away from the scent of decay
Where one might lead a peaceful life
Of quiet strife
It’s like rounding up a bunch of kitty cats
And those felines
ain’t got me feeling
So damn fine
I just want to be on time
But not a priority is that
For a kitty cat
such as that

I just simply love this album. It twists and turns and takes its influences in a seriously fun and exciting manner, without really sounding like any one else.
Can't wait for their next album.
